Today, CLC gathered for a good old fashioned Ides of March Toga Party – with a twist of action!
Recently, children in our Purple Room have been putting their thoughts about leadership and fairness into words in the form of letters to our president and other American lawmakers. Much of the children’s thinking has centered around what’s “friendly” and “fair,” and around the belief that the people in charge of our country should value fairness and friendliness just like we do in school. As we’ve written these letters, the kids have wondered if the president really will read our notes, and if other people are also writing…
Today, there was a national movement to send postcards and letters to the White House, to share feedback with the current administration and to remind our leaders that there is power in voices united – organizers are calling this one-day letter writing campaign the “Ides of Trump.” We took the opportunity to add our CLC ideas into the mix, and give the children a chance to be part of a larger movement around activism through letter writing.
Children across classrooms spent time today creating postcards and letters to the White House and other political representitives. Some children had specific soma drug online ideas to share, like “I’m concerned about Donald Trump’s unfair ideas” and “we shall not be moved!” Others drew pictures, “wrote” scribble notes in colorful marker, or painted postcards full of beauty. To mark the day as particularly special, children also donned togas, crowns, and golden arm and wristbands as they created postcards. It was a toga party of action for the ages!
After our thoughts, feelings, and artwork were out, we made sure our mail was ready to really send, marking each card with an address and a stamp! Then, Purple Room friends took a trip to the mailbox, making sure all our letters and postcards were placed safe inside!
Today, we mailed almost 100 postcards and letters to the White House and other political offices. Thank you so much to Solomon from the Purple Room and his family for helping us gather and create all our mailing materials, and thank you to all the families who shared their thoughts and made a postcard today too!!
